Housing Redevelopment

The city of Lauderdale is interested in acquiring small, run-down homes for infill redevelopment. New constructions would utilize sustainable building science practices in combination with design that is conscious to integrate into the existing neighborhood aesthetic to provide neighborhood revitalization. These homes would target the young family and senior citizen market. The overall goal of this project is to contribute to the creation of neighborhoods in the city of Lauderdale that are livable and adaptable while promoting high quality development, low impact building materials, and energy efficient design. In addition, the sustainable residential infill should contribute to neighborhood renewal while consciously addressing barriers of typical infill development and working to minimize those concerns.

We (U of M Students) are conducting research on:

  • What makes a home sustainable?

  • What should be the design and structure of these new homes?

  • What guidelines should the city of Lauderdale include in an RFP for this project?

  • What barriers may arise when implementing redevelopment?

We hope to create an RFP for developers to follow during the implementation of this infill development so that our goals, as sustainability students, and the goals of The City of Lauderdale are met effectively
